Johnny is an experienced engineering leader focused on shipping world-class products. He has built and led high-performing, globally-distributed engineering teams and is a strong advocate for engineering operational excellence. Johnny is also an international public speaker, speaking on engineering leadership, system design, and the JavaScript programming language.

Johnny has served as a member of the IT advisory board for the National Academy Foundation. He helped ensure students receive the resources necessary to prepare them for industry or higher education. In addition, he is the former Curriculum Development Lead for the DC chapter of Black Girls Code - an organization dedicated to teaching young women of color how to program. He is also a former board member for Byte Back - a nonprofit dedicated to providing a pathway of inclusive tech training that leads to living-wage careers.

He is also an educator - having taught Front End Web Development and JavaScript courses through General Assembly. During his time as Director of Technology at iStrategyLabs, Johnny led the development of projects and campaigns for clients such as Facebook, NBC Universal, Kroger, Volkswagen, and more.

As Mapbox's Navigation Engineering Director, Johnny led a cross-functional team to transform how Mapbox detected new data in the road network. His team added tens of thousands of new road data points through computer vision and statistical analysis to Mapbox's proprietary road network. He also formed and led the Logistics product vertical - solving problems for customers concerned with highly-efficient delivery optimization scenarios.

Johnny served as Chief Technology Officer for Till, a company that built financial products to help renters pay, stay and thrive in their homes through flexible rent payment options. After Best Egg acquired Till in late 2022, he transitioned to Best Egg's Head of Technology for Flexible Rent, where he continues to scale the platform to serve millions of users.
